basket ball and sugar coated candy
A bit more Blender;
First image is a simple model of a basket ball, looked a little into the UV tools in Blender for this. Played a little with Light and render.
Second image is a screen dump from a tutorial on geometry nodes I worked on. A little piece of sugar coated candy. Had some funky issues when trying to duplicate and make more pieces of candy - the new objects would only return around the world center. On top of that the light and camera setup was just...annoying.I might revisit this one for a proper render later on.

Learning Blender
I am trying to learn Blender...
With more than fifteen years of experience working in Maya the first thing I had to do was simply to overcome my frustration with the program itself. And that is not easy. Simple tasks that would be seconds or a couple of clicks in Maya can turn into several minutes finding the right button or short cut, figuring out what that function is named in this application and more often than not ending up searching for the solution on google or youtube.
But I am getting there. I can feel that the worst irritation has left and so now it is just a matter of putting in the hours, getting a workflow up and running.
Here is the result of my first little "project" - a small beginner tutorial I found on youtube ( check out 3Dgreenhorns channel )

Labyrinth
Inspired by the cover art from the White Lies album "Friends" I tried to created this isometric looking maze. Made in Illustrator with a little touch up in Photoshop along with some color variations.

Magnemite
After a couple of years hiatus I recently started playing Pokemon Go again. So when I wanted a little 3D project I decided to model one of these critters. As I wanted something simple I started out with Magnemite. I rendered out a bit of rim light as well and added a bit of glow and lightning in After Effects. Not sure if I am happy with the lightning - I think maybe they should be more stylized - but it'll have to do for now.

Illustrations Process
More discarded Illustrations - showing a bit of process; starting with the sketch - getting an idea of the design. Then the shapes where cleaned up in Illustrator and lastly texture and light was added in Photoshop.

Discarded cakes
Cake Illustrations from the last project I worked on. All of them had been OKed - then I took off for the summer. When I returned all my work had been scrapped.
Doesn't feel great but at least I can share the illustrations here.

Corona Isolation Illustration #1
Sketchbooks have never really been my thing - the paper is just too nice, so instead I got lots of post-its and scrap pieces of papers all over the place.
Anyways here is the first one;
I have had this sketch of a cow for a while now - and the idea of making it in an old rubber hose cartoony style. Made in Illustrator.

Giraffe Zbrush Head Sculpt
20 min sculpting an animal, I chose a giraffe. First sculpt from memory, and then a new sculpt this time with the use of reference images. Can you guess which is which? 😄

Illustrator Penrose Triangle
I am trying to get back to creating on my own time, and to that end I have started going through a lot of Illustrator tutorials on youtube, just trying to pick up a few tips and tricks and get some inspiration. And then add just a little twist to the final image so it is not just a total paint-by-numbers kind of thing.
Eventhough I think of myself as quite well versed in Illustrator there are still new tools and new ways to approach your work.
This penrose is a nice little excercise and it can be found here; penrose tutorial

Cartoon Bird
Here is a little cartoony bird I have been working on. The finished picture alongside some images of the process; the sketch that went through several iterations, the base shapes and finally the "finished" picture. I say "finished" because I am not 100% pleased with how the feet turned out, so I might go back and changed them eventually - it is both a blessing and a curse when working digitally - you can always go back and change every little detail.

another zbrush sketch
another little zbrush sketch I made. He started out as a devil/dracula-thingy - but I cut of his horns an so he evolved in to his goblin like creature....maybe I should have made his skin green?

Le Chef
A couple of images from the last project I worked on; "Le Chef" set in a small french bistro/restaurant where the head chef also is the waiter and the one doing the dishes.
Another 2D project, done in Photoshop, trying to get a bit more painterly texture into the artwork it got me out of my comfort zone ( I do like vectors...) but using shapes in Photoshop allowed me to create a clean more controlled overall shape, and then be a bit more lose within the shape creating the textures.

Tresure Coast
So I chose a style which I was comfortable with and I knew I could deliver on.
I used illustrator to create this art deco-ish look, and all in all I think it turned out very well.
First up; a couple of the symbols as they turned out.
A couple of game symbols, a frame was added along with some texture and a bit of noise, to make it less clean, something my game designer was quite adamant about.
And finally some postcard designs, it was an idea that in the end wasn't used. They are made by using the overall background image, and then zooming in om some of the more interesting details. The clouds are an early design - the final and more simple shapes can be seen on the above image.
